Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing spring break!
Today, we continued our unit on spring and began learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. We have 5 live caterpillars in our classroom and will observe them as they change into butterflies. We will talk about the amazing process of metamorphosis and even act it out! We are also going to spend some time learning what makes a bug an insect…and, yes, there is a song I hope you hear your child sing around the house to help them remember facts about insects.
Next Thursday, April 11th is our 100th day of school! This Thursday, April 4th, your child will come home with a 1 gallon ziploc bag. Their “homework”, will be to fill the bag with 100 items and bring it to school to display in our 100 day “museum” on the 11th. There will be instructions stapled to the bag. The items can, but do NOT have to, be the same things…they just need to fit in the bag (some examples: cheerios, paper clips, pennies, lego pieces, etc). As I plan to explain to the boys and girls, an “easy” way to count their items is to put them into 10 groups of 10. Thanks in advance for assisting your child with this project. Also, a heartfelt thank you to Jennifer Crook for volunteering to make a special 100 day cake to commemorate this milestone!
Looking ahead, our Easter Eggstravaganza will be held on Thursday, April 18th. Together with the Yellow Ducks, the Blue Whales will rotate through 6 “Easter themed” stations and conclude the morning with an Easter Egg hunt. A HUGE THANK YOU to our 3 wonderful parent volunteers, Yasue, Jennifer & Brian! We could not do this event without you! If anyone else is interested in helping out, please let me know. We can always use a couple more “helping hands”.
Also, your child will need to bring 6 filled plastic Easter eggs to school no later than Monday, March 15th. The eggs can be filled with stickers, erasers, little toys, and/or candy.
