Dear CCP Families,
We work towards peace everyday at preschool. Our children learn to talk through conflicts and work out solutions. This is one of the most important things we do! "If we are going to have real peace, and win the war against violence, we must start with children. By settling disputes with their peers, children gain an understanding of how to respect the needs of others, while meeting their own needs. They learn that there is often more than one 'right' side to a dispute, that feelings are important, and that there are many possible 'win-win' solutions." (~ Betsy Evans) I have hope for the future because our children are learning these problem-solving skills and can use them to make the world a more peaceful place.
Our spirit days were so much fun! I loved seeing all of the different class colors both days. These days are great for even more class bonding. It’s always special to belong somewhere!
CUMC Friendsgiving and a Kids Christmas Pageant.
You are cordially invited to Christ UM Church's second annual intergenerational Friendsgiving celebration. The event will take place on Sunday, November 22nd, 2026, at Christ United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill, NC. At 3:00, we will begin the Hanging of the Greens service and decorate the church. The meal will begin at 5:00 PM. We will provide the main course, all necessary paper products, and drinks. Please bring a favorite side dish or dessert to share. All are welcome! Good food and fellowship! Can it get any better than that (say that in Chandler Bing’s voice)?
Calling all sheep, donkeys, and cows!
Children’s Christmas Pageant.
As the holiday season approaches, one of our favorite traditions at Christ UMC is right around the corner: our annual Children’s Christmas Pageant! We warmly invite all of our children, from preschool through 5th grade, to be a part of bringing the Christmas story to life, with our preschoolers having a sweet, gentle role as the flocks gathered around baby Jesus. Our journey begins on Sunday, November 8th, at 10:00 AM, followed by weekly rehearsals on 11/15, 22nd, and 29th at 10:00 AM, and our dress rehearsal on Saturday, 12/5, at 10:00 AM. Sunday, 12/6, at 11:00 AM at 800 Market Street. If your child would love to participate or if you have any questions, please reach out directly to Dr. Dan Steinert at dsteinert@christmethodist.org—we can’t wait to celebrate the season together!
Remember next Tuesday, Nov. 11 is Veteran’s Day and CCP is closed. Thankful for all of our veterans!
Monday, Nov. 16 the CCP Advisory Committee will meet at 9:15am in Ascension Hall (right after drop-off). PAC members, please try to be present, as we will vote on next year’s budget. Please make sure you have read over the proposal and have all your questions answered. (If you must be absent, please email your vote to Abby Kennedy (chair) and Gretchen McDonald (secretary).
Thanksgiving Break - 11/23-11/27 - CCP is closed.
Please mark your December calendar…We will have our Preschool Christmas Concert on the last day of preschool before Christmas. It will be on Thursday, December 17 at 9:30am in the Sanctuary. We will sing a few songs and tell the Christmas story. MW classes, please do plan to be here, too! (We try to take turns, a Wednesday one year and a Thursday the next.) We will have our program at 9:30 and then everyone will go home with their families after the program. I will provide more details as we get closer, but for now, please mark your calendar for this special day.
From Pastor Lee:
Thank you so much for your incredible dedication and heart at this year’s Trunk or Treat! Because of your energy, creativity, and warm hospitality, the event was a joyful success for people of all ages across our community.
Events like this truly showcase who we are as a church family—reaching out intergenerationally to love and serve our neighbors. Seeing grandparents, parents, youth, and children laughing and celebrating together was a powerful reminder of the vibrant community we share.
A special thank you goes out to our wonderful friends at CUMC Preschool and CUMC Afterschool for sponsoring trunks this year. Your partnership, imaginative themes, and welcoming presence brought so much extra fun to the evening and blessed countless families.
Thank you again for sharing your time, candy, and smiles to make Trunk or Treat 2026 unforgettable. We are so grateful for your service, and we hope to see you all back next year!
A CONSCIOUS DISCIPLINE MOMENT - “Capture your child’s attention before you speak. Move close to her, wait for her to look at you, and say ‘There you are.’ “ (from Easy to Love, Difficult to Discipline, p. 96) You may have noticed that CCP teachers try to avoid calling across the classroom to a student. It’s much more effective to move close to the child and get his or her attention before you start to talk or give directions.
Peace,
Shelly
