Hi CCP Families,
How is it already mid-April already?! Our classes are all busier than ever creating, learning, and using their newly formed social skills. We have seen art inspired by famous artists, wild science adventures, and some fun dramatic play (I got my haircut in the Duck room recently, I know, brave right?).
We have caterpillars, that are guests in every classroom right now, getting ready to settle in for their chrysalis stage. Soon they will emerge as beautiful butterflies that will be released into the world. Our caterpillars that are hanging out in our classrooms will go through the difficult process of becoming a butterfly. After several days in the chrysalis the butterflies will begin to emerge. Because of the constricted chrysalis, the butterflies will emerge with crumpled and wet wings, unable to fly. We could step in to help the struggling butterflies and carefully touch their wings trying to straighten them, but we actually would harm the wings, and the butterflies would not be able to fly. Instead, each butterfly needs to experience the struggle. It needs to find its own strength, and in its own time straighten its wings and fly away.
In the same way, we need to do the same with our children. Come alongside them and recognize their struggle. “It looks you are having a hard time with that.” Then listen. Let them share with you what they are feeling at that moment. Avoid the temptation to “fix” their problem. Let them figure it out.
Our teachers have observed patience in taking turns, snack packaging being torn open, expert backpack packing, and shoes and coats easily being put on. Trust me when we say there was struggle before this could take place. Had we not allowed this effort to happen, we would have robbed them of the gift of struggle. As they walk through each trial, they will become stronger and more prepared for the world. It’s a beautiful thing to watch as they unfurl their own wings and are able to fly! 🦋
April 22 & 23 - 🎼 Spring Music Programs after drop-off in Ascension Hall. MW(F) classes and Whales will sing on Wednesday. T/TH classes and Ducks will sing on Thursday. There will be refreshments for adults. Plan on about 20-30 minutes. This will be a time when your children can show off what they have learned in Music and Movement with Ms. Vicki over the past several weeks.
PHOTOS went very well. You will receive an email that will give you a link and password to view and purchase your photos. If you need help, the phone number for Photo Specialties is 919-967-9576. (Our photographers were Nan and Christina)
On Tuesday, 4/21, our Ducks and Whales will be going on their Planetarium Field trip. Ducks & Whales, please be sure to read all communications from your teachers, especially regarding the early drop-off time on Tuesday.
SUMMER CAMP - Please remember to register your Ladybug, Duck, or Whale for summer camp. There is just 1 space left. We would like to know who is coming soon so we can order supplies.
A few reminders…
If you are returning to CCP next year, then your May 2027 tuition is due on May 1, 2026, and considered late on May 5th at noon. This payment covers May 2027, but is paid this month, almost like a security deposit. (When you set up your bank billpay for tuition next year, you will only set up payment for Sept - April.)
Please remember that the children are outside for at least 30-40 minutes each day. When it is hot and sunny, you may want to apply sunscreen in the morning before coming to preschool.
From Easy to Love, Difficult to Discipline, p. 38 - “Acceptance means recognizing that people, situations and events are what they are. Each moment is simply as it is. Acceptance does not mean that we approve of the moment, only that we recognize what is happening.”
Peace,
Shelly
BONUS TIDBITS: The struggle you’re in today is developing the strength you need for tomorrow.
