“Do you want to chill out with me?” – One of the kind invitations we get from the Blue Whales.
We had two birthdays this week. Sri treated his friends to goodie bags and writing tablets. Greta’s family read her favorite book to the class. Greta treated her friends to cupcakes and butterfly headbands and wands. The Blue Whales enjoyed the birthday celebrations.
The Blue Whales embraced the fall season this week. We painted leaves with shaving cream and paint. After reading Leaf Man we went looking for leaf man outside and collected nature items. During center time the Blue Whales turned the nature items into masterpieces.
There are many science experiments going on in the classroom. We read Treemendous and found some sprouting acorns. We planted the acorns, watered them and put them in the sun hoping we can grow our own oak trees. We tried the pine cone and water experiment. It really did work, the pine cone closed when wet and opened up when dry. Pumpkin Jack continues to change before eyes and we love checking on him each day. We have some grapes in the window that we are hoping will turn into raisins. Some of our Blue Whales knew we had to get the liquid out of the grapes to help the process.
We had two Guess & Tells and Josie and Hailey did a great job with three clues about their items and calling on friends to guess the items. The Blue Whales were able to guess Josie’s and Hailey’s items because of their great clues.
The Southern Village community has a lot to offer to extend what we are learning in the classroom. I will be sending an email to all families today asking for your permission to walk around Southern Village to explore their trails, playgrounds and other opportunities. Please respond to the email ASAP with a yes or no for permission to walk around the Southern Village neighborhood as a class and the best phone number to reach you. We will keep a list of that information with us whenever we leave the church grounds.
We are enjoying creating, moving, singing, discussing, observing, reading and playing with our Blue Whale friends. Hope everyone has a nice weekend.
