YELLOW DUCK NEWS

We had a busy week of Halloween fun! We began by decorating our room for the holiday. With the decorating supplies set out before them, the Yellow Ducks went to work with tape, streamers, spiderwebs, etc. They seemed to truly enjoy having complete autonomy in deciding how THEIR classroom got decorated.

The children worked to make candy corn decorations for home. This involved following a 3-step process of painting the plate in candy corn colors, cutting them into triangles, and stringing them onto yarn. We also worked on following directions as we drew Frankenstein on Friday (these will become part of their portfolios to bring home in May).

Later, the witches & wizards were experimenting with baking soda, vinegar & soapy water to create potions in the sensory table. They worked with pipettes and tiny spoons to find the right combination of ingredients to make their cauldrons of eyeballs & spiders bubble over as they cackled with glee!

We listed what we know about pumpkins, used yarn to estimate & measure the circumference and voted on a face for our jack-o-lantern (learning about counting with tally marks). In the end the 2 happy faces had a tie vote, so we compromised and made a triangle nose along with the diamond eyes.

It was a VERY busy & exciting week!

Our Halloween Parade & party were a blast! Our Ducks were happy to have you all walk along with them through the village showing off their amazing costumes. Thanks to our wonderful room reps, Crysta-Anne & Brooke, and all of your generous donations, we had lots of yummy treats, fun new stories, holiday crafts and fun making Miss Sue & Miss Carina (and many of our friends!) into MUMMIES!
