May 22nd- Last Day- everyone is invited to join us for a celebration of the Yellow Ducks. More info coming soon!

YELLOW DUCK NEWS:

This week we watched as our caterpillars grew, formed their Js at the top of the cup, and even got to watch as the last one spun it’s chrysalis around itself on Friday. We counted up from April 7 (the day we got them) and determined that Kathryn, Olive & Reese predicted correctly that it would take 9 or 10 days until they made the chrysalis. We have made new predictions about how many days it will be until they emerge as butterflies! We also put our beaded caterpillars into paper bag chrysalises to follow along with the life cycle.

The bugs in our sensory table liked our sticky swamp made from soaked chia seeds, but not many of the Yellow Ducks did 😆😆 We discovered it was also not our favorite thing to try to clean up, but had some very helpful friends who offered to help wash the bugs. We are attempting to grow some chia by the window instead.

The Yellow Ducks used bubble wrap stamps to print hexagon honeycombs and drew (and cut out!) bees to add to their hive.

They also learned about Vincent Van Gogh and drew their own starry night pictures using wavy line & spirals.

The Ducks are very excited to learn more about the planets and outer space during out trip next week. They are especially excited that our friend Diana will be coming to join us, and Ayzal will be returning from his long trip ❤️

At this time of year strong bonds have formed & preschoolers are learning to navigate between different friendships- sometimes resulting in hurt feelings. This week we read the story, “Chrysanthemum”. It’s a story about a little mouse named Chrysanthemum who is teased for her long name. Each time Chrysanthemum was teased, a large paper heart was crumpled a little. By the end of the story, the heart was in a ball. We tried to smooth it out, but the wrinkles remained. We reminded the Ducks that words can hurt others’ hearts, so we should be careful in choosing what we say to others. We hope that is a lesson they will carry with them throughout life.

Last but not least- we celebrated Lilly and Kennedy’s 5th birthdays this week. Happy Birthday girls! Welcome to the whole hand 🖐🏼 club.

Have a wonderful weekend with your growing Ducks,

Miss Sue & Miss Carina

oh…by the way- did you know that Miss Carina is an author? She self-published her very own story of the Adventures of Doug. These are stories that she verbally tells to the class often during snacks or lunch (Doug is her dog). The children loved hearing the book she created for them : )
