January has gone so quickly!!

January is almost over already! How did that happen? Our Ladybugs were busy talking about hibernating animals and winter in general this week. We had the Three Bears visiting in our kitchen. And at circle time we matched animals with the place that they hibernate- bears aren’t the only hibernating animals! For example, turtles & frogs go in the mud and groundhogs go in their burrow (more on that next week!).

Goldilocks made the 3 Bears a meal

We also made beautiful watercolor wax resist paintings of snowflakes and attempted drawing our own snowmen in our journals at our art table. Our science this week was learning about animal tracks and comparing their sizes. We used unit blocks and our own feet to measure the differences. We attempted to make snow dough on Friday. It was an experiment, so those don’t always end up exactly as expected. But we still had fun mixing it and trying to make snowballs.

The Ladybugs are ready for new challenges, so we’ve been working on letter and number recognition quite a bit. This week we took out some puzzles that not only work on spatial awareness and geometry, but the foot & hand puzzles required us to work on putting the numbers on the toes and fingers in the correct order. We had fun fishing in the “ice” for letter and number fish to match to their puzzle board, too.

Don’t forget to begin working on Valentine cards for all the Ladybug friends (12 students including your own Ladybug). If you give them a few at a time to work on, the children will enjoy creating this special gift to exchange with their friends on February 13th & 14th. We will be talking about kindness, love and friendship as we prepare for the holiday.

Also, please let us know if you (or a friend or family member!) would like to visit to share something about their job. We’d love to have some of our community helpers come to visit! Dentists, doctors, artists, musicians, teachers, hair dressers, garbage men and so many more all work together to serve our community and make it a great place to live!

Have a wonderful weekend with your Ladybug!!
