Important Dates

· Tuesday, October 20th – Please bring in one small pumpkin for your child by this date. We will be doing an art activity with the pumpkin.

· Wednesday, October 21st – Individual Photos (we will not have messy activities that day)

· Thursday, October 30th - We hope you can join us for our Halloween Costume Parade around Southern Village. Please send your child to school in their costume and drop them off at the classroom at our usual 9:00 a.m. The Blue Whales will meet families outside in front of the church at 9:30 a.m. and start our parade with the Yellow Ducks class. Families are welcome to dress up too. Please help your child change out of their costume after the parade. If you are OK with them wearing their costume all day that is fine too, but we will be our normal messy selves and play outside that day.

Quote of the Week

“The fire alarm in my room is broken so doesn’t make any sound.” - Not exactly the answer the firefighters wanted to hear when they asked the kids what does the fire alarm sound like. Just a friendly reminder to check the batteries in all of your smoke detectors 🙂

We had a visit from the Fire Department. The fire fighters showed us what they look like and sound like all dressed in their equipment. And they even let each child sit inside the fire truck. It was very exciting!

The Blue Whales learned about the artist Wassily Kandinsky. He painted abstract art using shapes and colors. The Blue Whales were inspired by one of his paintings and the fact that they didn’t know what they were creating, just see where the materials and process took their artwork. They created some amazing art.

We read a short biography about Kandinsky and talked about that being a true real story. The concepts of fiction and non-fiction have been discussed and they are using that information to sort the books we read into those categories.

The Blue Whales love to be part of the story when we read books. We had fun reading The Monster at the End of the Book and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. We made it very interactive and needed the help of the children to get through each book.

I really enjoyed parent conferences this week. I appreciate all of you that took the time to meet with me and strengthen our home and school partnership. We have a wonderful class.

While I was meeting with parents, Ms. Jane and Ms. Kelsi enjoyed being in the classroom with Ms. Beth. They read Titch the Tidder and The Leaf Thief and had fun activities with yarn and scratch art.

We had Guess-n-Tell and Mia did a great job with three clues about her item and calling on friends to guess the item. The Blue Whales were able to guess Mia’s item because of her great clues.
