Quote of the Week

“This is so satisfying.” -- A Blue Whale enjoying playing with the Ghost Mud the class made.

So much sensory fun this week with our Ghost Mud. There were many steps involved in making the mud and the Blue Whales eagerly participated in each step. We carved bars of ivory soap and collected all the shavings. We ripped rolls of toilet paper into little pieces. Then we put those two together and sprayed them with water and added a little glitter to make it even better. The Blue Whales didn’t even realize they were strengthening their fine motor and cooperation skills.

The Blue Whales continued to have fun with pumpkins this week. They used screws and screwdrivers on the pumpkins, in addition to the golf tees and hammers. The children carved large and small pumpkins. They were so proud of their accomplishments.

We read Room on the Broom and practiced sequencing. And the Blue Whales decorated their own witch hat.

We read a book that required an action when they saw something on the page and heard something I read. The Blue Whales worked on listening skills, multi-step directions and working memory all while we laughed and enjoyed a book together.

We read the book Pumpkin Jack and talked about the life cycle of a pumpkin and the parts of a pumpkin. We are going to watch our small jack o’lantern decompose and hope to observe the life cycle of a pumpkin. We decided to name our jack o’lantern Pumpkin Jack too.

The Blue Whales sang songs about pumpkins and jack o’lanterns and spiders. The Blue Whales made spiders and spider webs this week using different materials.

Thank you for joining us for our Halloween Costume Parade around Southern Village. The children really enjoyed showing off their costumes and it was so nice to have so many families in attendance.
