Quote of the Week
“I’m getting my hair done right now. I don’t know where my appointment is.” - A Blue Whale telling us about their plans on the playground.
It was pure joy to watch the Blue Whales make sock puppets and then decide they needed to have a puppet show complete with tickets and refreshments. We loved watching the whole idea come together with teamwork from the whole class. The Blue Whales even invited Ms. Shelly and Ms. Jen to come watch the puppet shows and have some popcorn and lemonade. It is exciting to see where child directed ideas lead us in the classroom.
Our windows are covered with bean seeds in plastic bags, and we are hoping to observe them sprout. So of course, we had to read Jack and the Beanstalk and an alternate version of the story to compare and talk about similarities and differences. The message we all took away from both stories is honesty and how important it is to tell the truth.
The Blue Whales planted seeds for vegetables and flowers. They have been watering them each day and they will go home with everyone on Thursday.
We continued our question of the day that focuses on the letters in our names. We are studying the letters through stories, sounds, movements and items that start with the letter. The Blue Whales are practicing identifying, writing and sounding out the letters.
We celebrated Frankie’s actual 5th Birthday. Frankie’s mom, dad and sister read a few of his favorite books to the class. Frankie treated his friends to delicious cupcakes and juice boxes.
We had Guess & Tell and Jacob did a great job with three clues about his item and calling on friends to guess the item. The Blue Whales were able to guess Jacob’s item because of his great clues.
Lydia’s big brothers, Eric and Everett, joined us one morning to read books to the class. Eric is a former Blue Whale, and it was wonderful to have him and his brother in the classroom. The Blue Whales really enjoyed listening to them both read.
We read the book Ten Black Dots and each child made a journal page using ten black dots.
Ms. Beth and I really enjoyed talking to parents at conferences about your amazing children. Thank you for taking the time to meet with us.
Thank you for all the kindness during Teacher Appreciation Week. We felt your love.
We are enjoying creating, moving, singing, discussing, observing, reading and playing with our Blue Whale friends. Hope everyone has a nice weekend.
