Quote of the Week

“Can you handle that?”  -- Believe it or not we all handled this week even though the happy energy was very high.

The Blue Whales had a great week welcoming Spring!  We talked about seasons and added another page to our journals about our favorite season.

The Blue Whales had so much fun with rainbows.  The children made all the items needed to produce a rainbow which we used to decorate the classroom (cloud, rain drops, sun and a rainbow).  They were so proud of their work.  There were opportunities to make rainbows all over the classroom in the blocks, at the easel and in the art center.  We talked about the order of the colors and danced to some rainbow songs.

The Blue Whales worked together to paint an amazing giant rainbow that we hung on the loft.  It was wonderful to see the cooperation, organization and collaboration among the children.  They were so excited to see their rainbow hanging up in the classroom.

We added watercolor to the water of white daisies to see capillary action as the colored water flows upward against gravity in the narrow space of the stem and hopefully will turn our white flowers different colors.  It has been exciting to check on the progress each day and the experiment was a beautiful success.

We continued our question of the day that focuses on the letters in our names.  We are studying the letters through stories, sounds, movements and items that start with the letter.  The Blue Whales are practicing identifying, writing and sounding out the letters.

We celebrated Palmer N.’s actual 5th Birthday.  Palmer’s mom, dad, Mimi and sister read her favorite book to the class.  Palmer treated her friends to a delicious Chik-Fil-A lunch, delicious cupcakes and Barbie goodies.

We had Guess & Tell and Georgia did a great job with three clues about her item and calling on friends to guess the item.  The Blue Whales were able to guess Georgia’s item because of her great clues.

We read the book It Looked Like Spilt Milk and each child made their own creation with white paint and blue paper.  We discussed looking up at the sky and what the clouds looked like to each of us.

Christie Matheson is a wonderful author and we read three of her books this week.  They are Plant the Tiny Seed, Tap the Magic Tree and The Hidden Rainbow.  Her books are all interactive. The children love to be part of the story.

The Blue Whales went home with their flowers, cucumbers or tomatoes, and beans in a bag on Thursday.  They did an excellent job caring for their seeds in the classroom.

We are enjoying creating, moving, singing, discussing, observing, reading and playing with our Blue Whale friends.  Hope everyone has a wonderful Spring Break.
