Quote of the Week

“Let me think it up in my brain.  OK I think I got it.  This is going to be hard for you.”  -- Our Morning Greeter coming up with their own greeting during circle time

Our caterpillars arrived in the classroom on Tuesday.  They have already grown so much in just a few days.  We are hoping to see a chrysalis next week.  We read a book about an impatient caterpillar and talked about some new vocab words (metamorphosis, migration, patient, impatient).

We ate our way through the life cycle of a butterfly at snack time.  We ate eggs (mini marshmallows), caterpillars (gummy worms), chrysalis (green grapes) and butterflies (butterfly shaped crackers).  It was a fun and yummy hands-on learning activity.

The Blue Whales made their predictions with our Skittles rainbow science experiment, and we enjoyed watching the rainbow appear with the skittles and warm water.  We all agreed it smelled so good and were surprised that all the colors did not blend and how quickly the water dissolved the skittles.  The Blue Whales had the opportunity to try the Skittles experiment themselves and really enjoyed their child led discoveries.

We talked about Humpty Dumpty and what happened to him when he fell off the wall.  Ms. Jen, from the Ladybugs, talked about gravity and how to protect their egg from cracking.  Then the Blue Whales got to work to make egg drops to try to protect their egg’s fall from the loft in the classroom.  We had 6 eggs that did not break and 9 that broke.  Everyone had fun creating, experimenting and predicting.

We continued our question of the day that focuses on the letters in our names.  We are studying the letters through stories, sounds, movements and items that start with the letter.  The Blue Whales are practicing identifying, writing and sounding out the letters.

We had Guess & Tell and Frankie did a great job with three clues about his item and calling on friends to guess the item.  The Blue Whales were able to guess Frankie’s item because of his great clues.

We are enjoying creating, moving, singing, discussing, observing, reading and playing with our Blue Whale friends.  Hope everyone has a nice weekend.
