Quote of the Week

“I loved everything.”  -- The popular response when we asked the Blue Whales what was their favorite part of the field trip.

This week in the classroom we continue to explore space.  NASA headquarters is set up in our housekeeping center with many Blue Whales overseeing the lift off, exploration and landing of many rocket ships to all different places in our solar system.  We had a huge box in the classroom that they decorated and imagined it to be many different things.  It has been a joy to watch the enthusiasm and collaboration among our Blue Whales.

Our solar system hangs from our ceiling as we use that and planet squish balls to talk and sing about the planets each day in circle time.  Ask your child about our planet song, it is helping us all remember the 8 planets.

Thank you, parents, for joining us on our field trip to the Planetarium.  From the bus, the exhibits, the planetarium show, the weather and the best Blue Whales and Yellow Ducks we could not have asked for a better day.

We blasted off our own Alka Seltzer rockets.  Three out of four of our launches were successes and we talked about how the staff at NASA experience ups and downs in their real jobs and in science in general.

We have been reading fiction and nonfiction about space and have had some interesting discussions.

All our caterpillars have made a chrysalis and have been moved to our Butterfly Garden.  It will be exciting on Monday to see if we have any caterpillars.

We had Guess & Tell and Cora did a great job with three clues about her item and calling on friends to guess the item.  The Blue Whales were able to guess Cora’s item because of her great clues.

We celebrated 100 Days of School.  The Blue Whales had to find 100 numbered lollipops hidden throughout the classroom and then match them to the number on our 100 chart.  Everyone did a great job searching and matching their numbers and we found 97 lollipops.  There will be a mystery to solve the where abouts of the other three lollipops on Monday.  For snack we enjoyed a cake, donuts and Oreos on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Transformers plates.  Within the classroom there were opportunities to make party hats with stickers, pom poms and gems.  We had nail painting and tattoos galore.  The blue confetti was a hit, especially with the homemade confetti shooters.  And the decorations, just wow, included balloons, balloon arch, streamers and stickers.  Our room looked fabulous. The 100 day museum was interesting and informative as we saw and felt how different 100 can be based on the items that were chosen.  Also, the Blue Whales loved to talk about their math skills by explaining how they counted 100 items.  It was a fabulous day planned by the Blue Whales and supported by our wonderful families.  Thank you!

Our three Circle Time Leaders this week did a wonderful job.

We are enjoying creating, moving, singing, discussing, observing, reading and playing with our Blue Whale friends.  Hope everyone has a nice weekend.
